Brushing and flossing remove soft plaque, but once plaque hardens into tartar only a professional cleaning can take it off. Scaling and polishing at Dentaire Smile Studio removes tartar and stains, checks your gums, and helps stop bleeding gums, bad breath and gum disease before they start.
- Full-mouth scaling and polishing
- Ultrasonic scaler
- Gum check at every visit
- 30–45 minutes

Quick answer: what is scaling and polishing, and how much does it cost in Gurgaon? Scaling and polishing is a professional teeth cleaning that removes hardened plaque (tartar or calculus) and surface stains that brushing cannot. It takes about 30–45 minutes with an ultrasonic scaler and is recommended every 6–12 months for most adults, or more often if you have gum disease. At Dentaire Smile Studio, a full-mouth scaling and polishing costs ₹1,800–₹2,500. Mild sensitivity or tender gums for a day or two afterwards is normal. Do you need a cleaning? Common signs
Bleeding gums
Gums that bleed when you brush or floss are usually reacting to plaque and tartar along the gum line – the earliest stage of gum disease (gingivitis).
Yellow or brown deposits
A hard, rough layer behind the lower front teeth or along the gum line is tartar. It cannot be brushed off once it sets.
Bad breath
Bacteria living in tartar and under the gums are one of the most common causes of bad breath that does not go away with mouthwash.
Tea, coffee or smoking stains
Polishing removes surface stains and leaves teeth smoother, so new stain and plaque stick less easily.
Honest note: a cleaning is not the same as whitening. Scaling and polishing removes deposits and surface stain, so teeth often look brighter, but it does not change the natural colour of the tooth. If you want whiter teeth, see our teeth whitening page.
Your cleaning, step by step
- Check-up first. We look at your teeth and gums, check for bleeding and gum pockets, and take an X-ray only if something needs a closer look.
- Ultrasonic scaling. A fine vibrating tip with a water spray breaks tartar off the teeth and from just under the gum line. You feel vibration and water, not cutting.
- Hand scaling. Small instruments remove any remaining deposits from between the teeth and around the gum line.
- Polishing. A soft rubber cup and polishing paste remove surface stains and smooth the tooth surface.
- Advice and next visit. We show you any areas you are missing while brushing, and tell you when to come back – usually in 6 to 12 months.
Scaling and polishing cost in Gurgaon (2026)
Most adults with healthy gums only need a routine full-mouth cleaning. If the check-up shows gum disease with deeper pockets, a deep cleaning is advised instead and is planned area by area.

Myths about teeth cleaning
“Cleaning loosens teeth”
It does not. Tartar sometimes fills the gaps left by gum disease, so teeth can feel slightly different once it is removed – but the cleaning is what lets the gums heal and tighten again.
“Cleaning damages enamel”
A professional scaling removes deposits sitting on the enamel, not the enamel itself. Done every 6–12 months, it is safe for teeth.
“Gaps appear after scaling”
The gaps were already there, filled with tartar. Once the gums are healthy they often fill in a little, and keeping them clean stops the gaps from growing.
“If it doesn’t hurt, it’s fine”
Gum disease is usually painless until it is advanced. Regular cleanings and check-ups catch it while it is still easy to treat.
After your cleaning
- Mild sensitivity to cold or slightly tender gums for one to two days is normal. A sensitivity toothpaste helps.
- Brush twice a day with a soft brush and fluoride toothpaste, and clean between your teeth once a day with floss or interdental brushes.
- If your gums still bleed after two weeks of good brushing, come back for a gum check.
- Book your next cleaning in 6–12 months, or sooner if you have gum disease, diabetes, braces or smoke.

Teeth cleaning FAQs
How much does scaling and polishing cost in Gurgaon?
At Dentaire Smile Studio in Sector 50, Gurugram, a full-mouth scaling and polishing costs ₹1,800–₹2,500 in 2026. If the check-up shows gum disease with deeper pockets, a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) is advised instead, at about ₹1,500–₹3,000 per quarter of the mouth.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Most adults need a professional cleaning every 6 to 12 months. People with gum disease, diabetes, braces or heavy tartar build-up, and smokers, may need one every 3 to 4 months.
Does scaling hurt?
Most people feel vibration, water spray and some scraping rather than pain. Sensitive areas or inflamed gums can feel uncomfortable, and a numbing gel or local anaesthetic can be used if needed. Mild sensitivity for a day or two afterwards is normal.
Does scaling loosen teeth or create gaps?
No. Scaling removes tartar, not tooth or bone. Tartar can fill gaps left by gum disease, so teeth may feel different once it is gone, but the cleaning is what allows the gums to heal.
Will cleaning make my teeth white?
Polishing removes surface stains from tea, coffee and smoking, so teeth often look brighter. It does not change the natural colour of the teeth – that needs teeth whitening.
How long does a teeth cleaning take?
A routine scaling and polishing takes about 30 to 45 minutes. A deep cleaning for gum disease takes longer and is often done over two or more visits.
What is the difference between scaling and deep cleaning?
Scaling and polishing removes tartar and stain from the teeth and just under the gum line. Deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, goes further under the gums to clean the root surfaces in pockets caused by gum disease, usually one quarter of the mouth at a time under local anaesthesia.
